MR ALABI KAYODE is an ambitious man who hailed from Iragbiji in Osun
State, surviving all odds even as hard as it may be this young man as an
undergraduate student of LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY (LAUTECH) has been
making change in his environment and even outside Nigeria, lets hear from
him.
CP: Can we meet you?
Alopay:I am Alabi Kayode Omoniyi, a student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH Ogbomoso and IManagement and Accounting
CP: Can you please tell us about your background?
Alopay: Well I hailed from Iragbiji in the State of
Osun but I had my primary and secondary school in Ibadan with my Mum
who’s a primary school teacher.
CP: What do you do aside schooling?
Alopay: I am a Public & Motivational Speaker and
I have an Enterprise/NGO that I am going to start as soon as I am
through in school.
CP: What are the things you have done as a leader?
Alopay:For the first time in the university history,
while I was the Public Relations Officer of my department i.e.
Management and Accounting, we were able to attend four conferences.I
also produced the first departmental magazine. From there, in 2012/2013
academic session, I served as the Public Relations Officer of the
Students Union Government. I single handedly inaugurated All-Nigeria
United Nations and Youth Association where by the Grace of God, some
students have had the opportunity to attend international conferences
through the noble association including myself. In October 2013, I was
addressing set of international students at the University of Ghana,
Legon where I was addressing the problem of unemployment and low
participation of youths in politics.I am also an international marketer.
December 2013, I head the coordinating team of the students that
participated in Skye Mobile piloting that was done in four higher
institutions and I was actually paid a big some of money for my two
weeks job.In march 2014, I was in Romania to attend the Model in United
Nations conference in Bucharest 2014.
CP: Are your parents aware of your activities?
Alopay: I was brought up by my Mum alone but she
didn’t know how deep am involved in either
politics on campus nor my
motivational speaking career.
CP: Did she know you traveled to Ghana?
Alopay: Yes, my Mum is always aware of my traveling
though at times I don’t always give her full details of what I went to
do so that she will not think I am independent and rich.
CP: How have you been coping with your studies?
Alopay:I must confess, it has not been easy combining all that
with my academics but you know having discovered that my first class/2:1
cannot guarantee me a job, it can only guarantee me jobs interview,
then as a management student, I need to be able to manage my time well.
But God has been helping me.
CP: how have you been sponsoring your trips and publications
Alopay: Hmmmm… 60% of my trips are been sponsored by
either the organizers or help from youth, students and my loved ones.
But I try to get my visa myself before seeking for sponsorships. As
regards my publications, aside from the one I produced at the
departmental level which was sponsored by the then executives, all other
publications I have produced have been through partnerships and self
sponsorship
CP: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Alopay: Somewhere making impact in the life of the Nigerian youth and doing exploits
CP: what advice do you have for undergraduates like you?
Alopay: They should stop living a triangular life
i.e. from hostel to school, from school to either church/mosque. The
market needs more than 1st class and 2:1. It is important for them to
add value to their lives and add more certificate to their B.Tech. On a
final note, it is important for undergraduates to join a noble
organization on campus where they can learn, utilize, develop and expand
their scope of knowledge.
CP: you were talking about organising or starting an NGO after school, what will be your focus as the NGO body?
Alopay:Training both graduate and undergraduate to
be employable in the market, training people to be self employed and to
helping the less privilege. I have learnt to give not because I have too
much but because I know how it feels for someone to have none.
CP: what do you have to say about collegeprofiles?
Alopay: You guys are doing a great job I must confess.
You didn’t tell me who nominated me for the interview but I know if not
for your good work you guys are doing, an average Nigerian youth will
not really have his voice heared on this kind of platform.
CP: thank you so much for your time Mr ALOPAY.
Alopay: You welcome sir
